Challenge: Increase seating, add lighting, incorporate contemporary pieces to update room
The existing room had limited seating options and only comfortable sat 3 people. Barclay started the design process by creating a floor plan that would allow for more seating and more ambient light. The client’s existing loveseat was too small, so her floor plan included a new sofa, 3 upholstered chairs and 2 small benches.
Next, Barclay created the room’s design scheme – pulling colorful and patterned fabrics to compliment each other. BSI purchased a pair of vintage mahogany Chinese Chippendale end tables from an auction. The vintage bamboo & glass coffee table was found at an antiques store and lacquered to work with the scheme.
To break up the monotony of the room’s wood pieces, a contemporary glass and gilt iron console was purchased. The console allows for more lighting in the room. It holds a unique pair of vintage, custom painted lamps with custom shades. A large contemporary custom canvas placed over the sofa moves your eye around the room and helps invigorate the space.
